The purpose of foundation is to even out your skin tone and texture as well as give the rest of your makeup something to adhere to. Foundation was not created to mask or hide your facial features. In choosing a foundation you should consider the following:
1. The color that matches your skin tone perfectly.
2. The finish that feels comfortable to you (matte, natural or dewy).
3. The coverage that is best for your skin type (full, medium or sheer).
There are several different formulas in foundation, such as liquid, cream and powder that provide great coverage based on the amount of product applied. Below are some definitions to assist you in choosing the appropriate product.
· Full Coverage – Skin tone and imperfections are completely covered and
camouflaged.
· Medium Coverage – Skin tone is balanced and enhanced, while imperfections are
lightly camouflaged.
· Sheer Coverage – Skin tone is noticeable, yet slightly enhanced in color. There is
no camouflage for skin imperfections.
To find a foundation that seamlessly blends into your skin you should schedule a makeup consultation with me or go to the cosmetic counter without any makeup on and apply a small amount to your skin. I recommend about two to three shades that are close to your skin tone. The best color will be the one that disappears into the skin after a couple of minutes of application.
In general, you should never be able to see foundation, only its effect. The final result should be skin that looks natural, healthy, even in tone and texture.
